Juvenile Justice
“To protest against injustice is the foundation of all our American democracy.”
~ Thurgood Marshall
At the Ohio Federation for Health Equity and Social Justice, we recognize that the seeds of a just society are sown in the experiences of its youngest members. Our dedication to creating a landscape of equality and health for all extends with special attention to the juvenile population of Ohio. We are committed to advocating for social justice among youth. We understand that early interventions and support can change the course of a young life, guiding it toward a brighter and more equitable future.
Our Vision for Juvenile Social Justice
We envision a society where every child, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, has equal access to health, education, and the opportunity to live a fulfilling life. In our ideal Ohio, the youth justice system serves as a beacon of rehabilitation, not punishment. Policies and programs would nurture rather than stigmatize, and every child would be recognized as a future leader, not a potential statistic.
Our Mission in Action
The Ohio Federation for Health Equity and Social Justice is taking a multifaceted approach to juvenile social justice, focusing on:
- Civic Engagement: Encouraging the youth to understand their rights, the legal system, and the importance of civic participation. By empowering young Ohioans to use their voices, we can foster a generation that demands justice and equity.
- Policy Advocacy: Working with lawmakers and community leaders to reform juvenile justice policies that disproportionately affect minority and underserved youth populations. Our aim is to advocate for legislation that supports diversion programs, rehabilitation over incarceration, and equitable treatment for all.
